Rob's Column

Your Next President
As promised to my wonderful and attentive readers. It's time to take a glimpse into the presidential candidates that could be governing the greatest nation in the world. I will not say who I'm going to vote for, because honestly, I'm not sure. I think you must ask yourself this pertinent question when thinking about candidates this early in this election. What are the most important issues facing us, myself, and family at this moment in time? I will even take a chance on you also, and ask you to narrow it down to three issues. For example: Illegal Aliens, protecting our borders, the war on terror (Islamic Fascists), social security, Medicare, taxes, healthcare in general, homeland security, abortion, fiscal responsibility, smaller government, and gun control. Those were off the top of my head, so bear with me, remember folks, I went to a Government school so I could've missed one. As for me personally, I've narrowed down my three issues respectively as 1. The War on Terror 2. The Criminal Aliens flooding our country 3. Taxes. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure I may change those issues in time, but those are probably my top three from what I want to know about presidential candidates.
With my main issues in hand, I always try to focus in on any political debate or news broadcast about candidates and try to find out what their views are about them. As you know, I have my views and concerns, and know exactly what I want to hear from the candidates. The War on Terror- I want to hear a presidential candidate say he is willing to do everything and anything to kick someone's backside and even be willing to drop the bomb if needed to do so. I can guarantee you if you drop a nuke on Iran, that little two faced weasel President Ahmadinejad from Iran would be begging the United States for forgiveness. The Criminal Aliens keep coming over to America, and good ole President Bush and many others just want to give them amnesty. News Flash, their is already laws on the books for dealing with these criminals. How about enforcing the laws that are already on the books and for the love of your creator, secure the damn border already. Taxes, taxes, taxes, and more taxes, theirs a simple solution to it all, called the FairTax Plan. I want candidates to repeat it and say it over and over again. So let's take a look at what the candidates are saying about these three issues, and some other idiotic/patriotic statements that also slid out of their mouth. Get your coffee or tea, and sit back, and take a in-depth look at the top three presidential candidates for 2008 in each party.
Your Democrat Candidates (Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, John Edwards)

Currently Senator (NY) Hillary Rodham-Clinton, also former First Lady, born October 26, 1947 in Park Ridge, Illinois. Raised Methodist and very active in such activities as brownies, girl scouts, student council, in her early years. After high school she went to Wellessey College (ranked among the top five liberal arts colleges in the nation) and majored in political science. Then she went on to Yale Law School and received her Jurist doctorate in Law in 1973. Also while attending Yale she met former President Bill Clinton. Now I could go further into detail about the marital issues but let's just say if you don't remember your probably not old enough to vote anyway. Please Click Here for her campaign website.
Issues:
1. War on Terror, She wants to end the war in Iraq, doesn't agree with President Bush for sending more troops. However, she voted to send our troops to Afghanistan and Iraq but says, if she was president wouldn't of went to Iraq without taking care of Afghanistan (Osama Bin Laden) first. Also, if elected president, would pull out all of our troops out of Iraq. Click here to read more.
2. Criminal Aliens, Well let me use a quote from her dated March 2006, She declared that Republican efforts to criminalize undocumented workers and their support networks "would literally criminalize the good Samaritan and probably even Jesus himself." Well I guess she's all for amnesty, go figure. Not surprising though, considering, she has spent most of her political career trying to initiate a "Universal Health Care Plan", so everyone in the U.S. will have health care.
3. Taxes, she wants to eliminate President Bush's tax cuts, raise taxes on the upper class and rebuke corporate tax cuts. Read it for yourself dated May 30th 2007, Click Here
Notable Quotes:
"I have to admit that a good deal of what my husband and I have learned [about Islam] has come from our daughter."
"Many of you are well enough off that [President Bush's] tax cuts may have helped you. We're saying that for America to get back on track, we're probably going to cut that short and not give it to you. We're going to have to take things away from you on behalf of the common good."
Talking about Exxon's oil profits, "I want to take those profits and
put them into an alternative energy fund that will begin to fund alternative
smart energy alternatives that will actually begin to move us toward the
direction of independence."

Senator (Ill.) Barack Hussein Obama, born August 4th, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii. His father was a Muslim Doctor from Kenya, his mother (Ann Dunham) was raised in Wichita, Kansas. Attended Punahou high school in Honolulu, Hawaii. Then attended a private college in Los Angeles, CA called Occidental College for two years. Then went on to Columbia University in 1981 to study political science. In 1988, he went on to Harvard Law School and in 1991 graduated magna cum laude with a Jurist Doctorate of Law. Was elected into the U.S. Senate in 2005. His campaign website is Here.
Issues:
1. War on Terror, Never has been for any occupation of Iraq, has stated it was a mistake and stands firm against it. Takes a strong stance on Homeland Security, in that, protecting chemical plants, radioactive release of material, evacuation plans for special needs people, reuniting families after an attack, and keeping drinking water safe. Click here to read more.
2. Criminal Aliens, is very firm on protecting our borders through better technology, more Border patrol, and stopping anyone from entering this country. Sen. Obama believes in going after any employer who hires an illegal alien. Wants a new employer verification system put into place, and also believes we need an avenue for the Illegal Aliens already in the U.S. to have citizenship. Submitted a bill in the senate to lower the application fees for Illegal Aliens to gain citizenship. It's still amnesty, but the border is protected, click here to read more.
3. Taxes, wants to raise taxes on the wealthy to pay for a Universal Health Plan. Wants to "roll back" president bush's tax cuts.
Notable Quotes:
"I don't oppose all wars. What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war." "We're not going to baby sit a civil war"
"In case you missed it, this week, there was a tragedy in Kansas. Ten thousand people died—an entire town destroyed,"
"I am a strong supporter of the Muslim community, and I believe Muslims have been scapegoated."

Former Senator (NC) Johnny Reid "John" Edwards, was born on June 10, 1953 in Seneca, South Carolina. Mother was a postal carrier and father was a supervisor in the textile industry. Claims to be a Methodist and graduated high school in Robbins, North Carolina. Went to college at Clemson University then transferred to North Carolina State University and graduated with a bachelors in textile technology in 1974. In 1977 he earned his law degree from University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. U.S. Senator (NC) from 1999 to 2005. His campaign website is Here.
Issues:
1. War on Terror, has nothing on campaign website concerning this, however, has stated as recent as May 23, 2007, that "there is no global war on terror", the war on terror is a "bumper sticker" for President Bush. Well that's easy enough to understand, next issue please.
2. Criminal Aliens, again, nothing on the website concerning this, however, this was stated recently concerning Illegal Aliens, "This is not rocket science," he said, and he said blocking the border is not the answer. He said illegal immigrants should pay fines, learn to speak English and be offered paths to citizenship.
3. Taxes, go figure, nothing on his website again, once again though, he has talked about it recently. As of May 11, 2007, he stated he would roll back Bush's tax cuts on Americans making more than $200,000 a year. He also said he would consider raising capital gains taxes to help fund his plans and raise or eliminate the $90,000 cap on individual earnings subject to Social Security taxes to help cover the projected shortfall in the system.
Notable Quotes:
saying on October 10, 2002 that "Almost no one disagrees with these basic facts: that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a menace; that he has weapons of mass destruction and that he is doing everything in his power to get nuclear weapons; that he has supported terrorists; that he is a grave threat to the region, to vital allies like Israel, and to the United States; and that he is thwarting the will of the international community and undermining the United Nations' credibility."
"The president of the United States actually has to be able to walk and chew gum at the same time."
"If we do the work that we can do in this country, the
work that we will do when John Kerry is President, people like Christopher Reeve
will get up out of that wheelchair and walk again."

Your Republican Candidates (Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, and Fred Thompson)

"America's Mayor" Rudolph "Rudy" William Louis Giuliani III was born on May 28, 1944 in Brooklyn, New York. Came from a devout working class mother and father who were Italian Immigrants. Is a Roman Catholic and graduated high school from Bishop Loughlin Memorial in 1961. Attended college at Manhattan College in Riverdale (Bronx) and graduated in 1965. He then went to law school at NYU and graduated cum laude in 1968 with a Juris Doctor. He served as a very active U.S. Attorney in the 70's and 80's, then became New York Mayor in 1994 to 2001. Most notable was his appearance in the World Trade Center towers moments before the collapse and his duty to unite America in it's worst terrorist tragedy (9-11) ever to hit the United States. His Campaign website is Here.
Issues:
1. War on Terror, "Rudy Giuliani believes winning the war on terror is the
great responsibility of our generation. America cannot afford to go back to the
days of playing defense, with inconsistent responses to terrorist attacks,
because weakness only encourages aggression. Americans want peace. We’re at war
not because we want to be, but because the terrorists declared war on us - well
before the attacks of September 11th. Rudy understands that freedom is going to
win this war of ideas. America will win the war on terror." Taken from his
website.
2. Criminal Aliens, over a decade ago, as mayor of New York, made it a Sanctuary city, ordering city workers not to deny them benefits, and not report them to INS, and giving them clear paths to citizenship. As of April 22, 2007, his views have changed, according to the New York Times, Rudy has said we should not give illegal's amnesty, that they must wait at the back of line to gain citizenship, but does hint around to liking President Bush's endorsed plan (which is amnesty).
3. Taxes, "He cut taxes 23 times in New York and turned a $2.3 billion budget deficit into a multi-billion dollar surplus, while balancing the city’s budget. Because he turned his conservative principles into action, New York City taxpayers saved more than $9 billion in taxes and enjoyed their lowest tax burden in decades, while the economy grew and city government saw its revenues increase from the lower tax rates. Rudy Giuliani believes in supply-side economics, because he did it and he saw it work." Has come out in the past supporting the Flat Tax (not the FairTax) with Steve Forbes at his side. He has been asked many times about the FairTax Plan at townhall meetings and says he sympathizes with supporters of the FairTax, he endorses it, but says the reality is, it will not pass legislation. At least he knows what the FairTax Plan is and doesn't try to lie about it.
Notable Quotes:
"In choosing a president, we really don't choose a Republican or Democrat, a conservative or liberal. We choose a leader."
"What we can borrow from Ronald Reagan... is that great sense of optimism. He led by building on the strengths of America, not running America down."
"The use of military force against Iran would be very dangerous. It would be very provocative. The only thing worse would be Iran being a nuclear power."

Former Governor of Massachusetts Willard Mitt Romney born on March 12th, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan (Go Blue). His father was Governor of Michigan, and chairman of American Motors, while his mother was a U.S. Senate candidate in 1970. He's a practicing Mormon of the Church of Latter day Saints and attended high school in Cranbrook School in Bloomfied Hills, Michigan. He went to Stanford University for two semesters and then went onto fulfill his Mormon obligations by serving thirty months in France as missionary. After serving his church, he came back to the United States and attended Brigham Young University and was valedictorian graduating summa cum laude with a B.A. degree in 1971. He then took on getting his Harvard Law Degree and Master of Business at the same time from Harvard and graduating in 1975. Most notable was taking over the Salt Lake City Olympic organizing committee as CEO at turning around a 379 million dollar deficit, into clearing a profit of 100 million dollars and being one of the most successful Winter Olympics to date. His campaign website is Here.
Issues:
1. War on Terror, Defeating the Jihadists:
"The defeat of this radical and violent faction of Islam must be achieved
through a combination of American resolve, international effort, and the
rejection of violence by moderate, modern, mainstream Muslims. An effective
strategy will involve both military and diplomatic actions to support modern
Muslim nations. America must help lead a broad-based international coalition
that promotes secular education, modern financial and economic policies,
international trade, and human rights." also taken from his website.
"Romney wants the public to know that Jihadists are not an 'armed group of
crazed maniacs in the hills of Afghanistan.' Rather, Romney says the United
States is facing a 'far more sinister and broad-based extremist faction' with a
'very 8th century view of the world.'"

2. Criminal Aliens, as quoted from the AP, on June 23, 2006, "We need to
make America more attractive for legal immigrants -- for citizens -- and less
attractive for illegal immigrants. I want to see more immigration in our
country, but more legal immigration and less illegal immigration." More
recently, as of May 23, 2007, Romney stated, "The idea of an amnesty-type
provision is something I oppose and continue to oppose,". He also
stated that the McCain and Kennedy immigration bill that the President is
pushing is amnesty and something he does not support at all.
3. Taxes, as taken from his website "America's tax code is a labyrinth
that imposes an enormous and unnecessary burden on our citizens and employers.
Keeping taxes low and simplifying the code will grow the economy and enhance our
competitiveness." Also, he states, "It is fundamentally unfair to tax
people retroactively. If we are to keep faith with the taxpayers of
Massachusetts, we need to correct the constitutional error that occurred here."
Interesting, I wonder if that "constitutional error" he was quoting was in
reference to the 16th Amendment (income withholding taxes). As for the
FairTax Plan, he was recently asked as of May 25, 2007 in Jacksonville, Florida
if he would support the FairTax Plan. He responded by saying he wasn't
going to include it in his campaign platform but would study it and analyze it
and that he believed that the tax rate would have to be 45%. Damn it!!!! I
can't stand people who lie about the FairTax,
if you don't know what your talking about, why even open your mouth and remove
all doubt? The FairTax Plan
(H.R. 25) is the most researched bill EVER to be introduced into legislation.
Notable Quotes:
"I said no to a tax hike; raising taxes hurts working people and scares away jobs. I also said no to more borrowing; borrowing just shifts our problems to the backs of our kids . . . Instead, I went after waste, inefficiency, duplication, and patronage."
"The jihadists are waging a global war against the United States and Western governments generally with the ambition of replacing legitimate governments with a caliphate, with a theocracy."
“I purchased a gun when I was a young man. I’ve been a hunter pretty much all my life,” Actually, he was found to have only two times in his whole life.

Former Senator (TN) Fred Dalton Thompson born August 19, 1942 in Sheffield, Alabama. His father was a used car salesman in Sheffield and mother was a homemaker. Graduated from Government school in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee in 1959. Attended Memphis State University and graduated with a Bachelors degree in political science and philosophy in 1964. In 1967, he graduated from Vanderbilt school of law with a Jurist Doctorate. Assistant U.S. attorney from 1969 to 1972, then went on to be co-counsel for the Watergate (Richard Nixon) scandal. A United States Senator hailing from Tennessee from 1994 to 2003. Most notable is his acting career, especially in 2003 when he joined NBC's Law & Order until his resignation from the show as of May 30, 2007. His draft campaign site is Here. When i say "draft campaign", Senator Fred Thompson hasn't even said he would run for the presidency yet.
Issues:
1. War on Terror, well, lets just let him say it to you
You can't say it any plainer than that
2. Criminal Aliens, Right out of the gates, he stated, "this immigration policy will fail". What you need to do is enforce the laws that are already in place. "The people of this nation don't trust government, therefore won't believe this bill will protect our borders like they want." Actually, listen to Fred talking about the Criminal Aliens,
3. Taxes, well since he isn't "officially" running, he doesn't have website on his issues. However, you can Click Here to see what he has done while in the Senate.
Notable Quotes:
"After two years in Washington, I often long for the realism and sincerity of Hollywood"
"Every foreign policy of every major nation involves reason, common sense, carrots and sticks. You can't have all carrots and no sticks."
After Michael Moore harassed Fred about smoking Cuban Cigars, and emailed him wanting to debate him, Fred responded in a video about his documentary "Sicko" dated, May 15, 2007, you'll like this, watch it.....

Your probably wondering why I included Fred Thompson instead of John McCain, because folks, once Fred comes out saying he is running, John McCain will be a petrified political dust cloud. Besides, McCain is one of the knuckleheads that drummed up this "new" immigration policy with the "lets leave a woman in a car to drown" Senator Ted Kennedy. As for only sticking with the Republican and Democrat Parties, and not putting anyone else in, well lets be real for a second folks, and you know what I mean. As for Hillary Clinton, I can't stand socialists, and if she keeps making comments like the one about Exxon, it's safe to call her a Fascist as well. For the Democrats idea of "Universal Health Care", call it what it is, socialized medicine. It doesn't work, just ask Canada, or better yet, we have a prime example of Universal Health Care here in America, it's called the Veterans Affairs, and we all know how good the VA health system is, don't we? The FairTax plan is gaining much respect, 6 years ago, nobody even knew what it was, change takes time, and I'm growing ever so impatient. One candidate for the Republican party that I must mention is Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, he's come out in total support of the FairTax and screamed this taxation plan from the rooftops at the recent presidential debate in Columbia, SC. It's about time, thank goodness, this gives us all hope. If you think a issue is more important that then three i mentioned, let me have it, I would be more than happy to research it and add it to this page or write a new column about it.
